November 4, 2019

Dear Friend,

I am deeply grateful for those who have dedicated their time to bravely serve our country. Our veterans have made great sacrifices for our country, which is why I’ve made it my priority in Congress to ensure veterans have the support they need and the care they deserve. As we head into Veterans Day weekend, please take a moment to honor those who have served and thank our local veterans.

This Veterans Day, I invite all veterans and military families to come to my Veterans Town Hall at the Richardson ISD Academy
on Monday, November 11! RSVP HERE

If you can’t make it, you can read an update on my work for North Texas veterans below.

Sincerely,

Update on my work for veterans

As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I am fighting in Congress to improve veterans’ access to care and ease the transition from military service back to civilian life. Here are a few highlights on my work for our troops this year:

Giving the troops a pay raise
I am proud to have voted for the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that equips our troops with the support they need, and provides a much-deserved pay raise for our service members. The House also passed my two amendments to the NDAA. These critical amendments secure $10 million for Texas universities to invest in research on brain injuries, and on military infrastructure.

Bringing a VA Health Clinic to Garland
I am working to bring a VA Health Clinic to Garland. Converting the closed Garland Hospital into a VA would provide care for an additional 184,000 North Texan veterans. The new Garland VA would relieve wait times, improve quality of care, create thousands of jobs for our region and save taxpayers millions of dollars by using an existing structure.

I held a veterans round table to learn about their experience with the VA and how we can better support their needs by bringing a VA to Garland.

Cutting through the red tape
I can help cut through red tape to resolve problems you may have with your VA benefits, as I helped Mary, from Garland. Mary’s husband had bravely served our nation. When he passed away last year, Mary was forced to apply for spousal support through the VA. After six months of waiting on a decision from the VA, Mary contacted my office. We had the pleasure of contacting the VA on Mary’s behalf and securing her benefits, including back pay, in less than a month.

If you are having issues as it relates to your military service or your veterans benefits, my office in Richarson can assist you. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (972) 972-7949 or visit my website: allred.house.gov/services/help-federal-agency
