Indivisibles,

This week is going to be pretty major.

Firstly, tomorrow is Election Day! Indivisibles have been hard at work in
a few key states for this off-year election, and are excited to push
progressive candidates across the finish line (check out our Election
Update section below for more!)

Our book also comes out tomorrow! We’re so excited and we just can’t hide
it (seriously, we’re literally going on a seven-city book tour)! Ezra and
Leah are traveling across the country talking about about how we build the
power to drive through impeachment in 2019, retake power in 2020, and
demand democracy in 2021. So grab our love letter to this movement – [ [link removed] ]We
Are Indivisible: A Blueprint for Democracy After Trump – and look out for
an [ [link removed] ]event near you!

The House is on recess (now through Nov 11), and that means we need you to
step up and plan an event at a district office or RSVP to a town hall
right now. No member of Congress should be able to escape the drumbeat of
impeachment from their constituents right now.

Super important caveat - the committees investigating Trump, including the
House Intelligence Committee, will not be returning home for recess. This
is great news! It means our pressure is creating a growing sense of
urgency among House Democrats to hold this administration accountable for
its crimes. This likely means that we can expect the start of public
hearings very soon.

And now for the most important number of the week, your 5 weekly to-dos:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]Demand your member of Congress #impeachnow this recess. The House
is on recess from now through Veterans Day (November 2 - November 11).
At this stage in the impeachment fight, it’s important to show up to
town halls, plan a district office visit, or get members on the record
at public events (think: parades). For Democrats, show up to tell them
that you’ve got their backs. For Republicans, ask them
#OneSimpleQuestion: do you think it’s OK for a president to ask a
foreign power to interfere in our elections? Get their responses on
video. Find or register your event now and coalition partners will
help you recruit.
 2. [ [link removed] ]Sign up to make some calls connecting voters to senators to demand
a complete and fair impeachment trial. We've identified 13 senators
who really need to hear from their constituents (folks who are
vulnerable because they’re up for reelection next year and folks who
are retiring and worrying a lot about their legacies). Now we're
asking you to call voters in those states and ask them to turn up the
pressure on their elected officials. It’s a simple four-part process:

* You call a progressive voter in a key state with one of these 13
Republicans. These folks are your friends—they attended the
Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes.
* You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the
continued fight for impeachment is so important—and why they have
particular power in this moment.
* You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call
their senator and make their voices heard on why we’re demanding
courage in this moment.
* You push a button and connect them to their senator’s office. The
call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to
the senator’s DC office.

 3. [ [link removed] ]Register or find a Trump is Not Above the Law Impeachment Eve event
now. The night before the House of Representatives takes a historic
vote to impeach Trump, we'll head to every congressional office and
public square to declare that Nobody Is Above the Law as
representatives finalize their positions and senators look on. There
are more than 160 events on the map as of now with more being added
every day.
 4. [ [link removed] ]Order your Indivisible book today. As a reminder, 100% of the
proceeds from We Are Indivisible: A Blueprint for Democracy After
Trump are going to Indivisible’s Save Democracy Fund, which supports
projects related to democracy reform and our vision for what happens
after we take back the Senate and the White House in 2021.
 5. [ [link removed] ]Register for the National Activist Call on Nov 7 at 8 PM ET. We’re
going to cover the latest updates on the impeachment inquiry in the
House, and recap the Defund Hate week of action from September -- so
make sure to tune in!

 Other Hill Happenings

The House is currently out on recess, which means it’s a great time for
you to make your voice heard in your home district! Here’s all the
information you need to tell your members of Congress what you expect of
them when they return to Washington:

* Congress needs to vote to fund the government by November 21. The next
deadline to avoid a government shutdown is November 21, and the
pressure is turning up on Congress to act. The House and Senate will
try to work to pass another short-term funding bill (known as a
“continuing resolution,” or “CR”) that will last until December,
January, or even later. We need to make sure Congress continues to
hold strong against Trump's racist immigration agenda by working to
Defund Hate — [ [link removed] ]check out our resources here!
* The House will vote soon on its bill to bring down prescription drug
prices. Lowering the cost of people’s medicine is rightly a top
priority for Congress, and H.R. 3 -- which is the House’s bill for
doing so -- needs to be as strong as possible to ensure it would
improve people’s lives. Right now, it has some key gaps that would
result in too many people spending too much for the drugs they need.
[ [link removed] ]Make sure to check out this document that includes a town hall
question for any public events with your member, then call your member
of Congress and [ [link removed] ]tell them to improve H.R. 3, and use our
leave-behind if you have a meeting with your member of Congress’s
staff!

 Election Update

Tomorrow is Election Day in states around the country! We know, we know —
we’ve all got our eyes on the prize of 2020. But there are some crucial
races happening in 2019 too:

* In Virginia, voters have the opportunity to flip both the Virginia
House and Senate — potentially making the Commonwealth a Democratic
trifecta ahead of 2020 redistricting.

* In Kentucky, we’ve got our eyes on the effort to get Andy Beshear
elected and protect Medicaid expansion in the Commonwealth.

* And in Mississippi, Indivisibles have been knocking doors to turn out
voters in key races up and down the ballot.

If you live in a state with 2019 elections, don’t forget to vote tomorrow!

confirm your polling site, or report any issues on election day.

We Are Indivisible: A Blueprint for Democracy After Trump

Every week we’ve shared excerpts from the book with our movement -- and
finally -- the time has come. The book comes out tomorrow! We ended last
week’s preview talking about the sad state of our democracy -- about how
it’s buckling and it’s rigged.

Part 1: Democracy buckling. American democracy just wasn’t built for what
we’re dealing with now—and it’s coming apart at the seams. The Founders
didn’t foresee two political parties like we have now, and for most of our
history we didn’t have them. Since the 1960s, the parties have grown
ideologically distinct; they’ve polarized. That polarization, overlaid on
top of our outdated democratic institutions, is a recipe for gridlock and
dysfunction—and it’s only going to get worse. Our democracy is buckling.

Part 2: Democracy rigged. Our democracy isn’t just falling apart on its
own; it’s being intentionally rigged. An unholy alliance between wealthy
plutocrats, practitioners of white identity politics, and religious
ideologues has produced a reactionary conservative party—and they’re
systematically rigging the rules to keep themselves in power. They know
that a truly representative democracy will reject their unpopular social
and economic agenda. So they’re doing their best to prevent that from
happening. Our democracy is being rigged.

If we’re ever going to fix the system and save our democracy, we need to
understand how it came to be so broken and rigged in the first place. The
following pages describe what we’re up against.

To Be Continued… when you buy the book!

If you didn’t get the chance to [ [link removed] ]order your book, you can still
contribute to our goal of making the New York Times’s Best Seller List by
ordering now! It’s critical to sell as many books as we can this week to
make the list, and ultimately, to help us get the book in as many hands as
possible.

Luckily, we’re still running our [ [link removed] ]Indivisible Book Contest! Y’all can
win an exclusive swag bag and a 30-minute conversation with Leah or Ezra
-- all you have to do is order, take a photo of the receipt, and tag us on
Twitter or Instagram with #IndivisiBookClub.

forget to block out any personally identifiable information from the
receipt!

 Support the Movement

Our big strategy on impeachment boils down to this: we need to build an
unprecedented amount of pressure on Congress, because we know it’s the
only way to get them to do their jobs and hold Trump accountable for his
crimes.

That’s why we’ve got a multi-pronged strategy to build the grassroots
power we need to get it done. A massive ad campaign, regularly updated
guides and resources, on-the-ground organizing and nationwide
rapid-response efforts, Impeachment Daily and all our news roundups --
we’re doing all this work and more to make sure our members of Congress
take their jobs seriously and hold Trump accountable.

But building all those resources takes a ton of work from organizers,
policy experts, and creative team members. We want our work to represent
you, the people, which means we need our funding to come from the people
too. [ [link removed] ]Can you pitch in $10 to keep our impeachment strategy and all our
work moving?

 IndivisiWin of the Week

Indivisibles from across New York came together for
Empire State Indivisible’s 2020 kick-off meeting! 2020
is going to be one of the most consequential elections
in our lifetime and Indivisibles don’t plan on sitting
on the sidelines for it!

This week is gonna be busy, Indivisibles. But in the best possible
way. So find a town hall, get ready to set up your IndivisibleBookClub,
and keep your eyes peeled for impeachment updates as House Democrats
continue investigating Trump during this recess.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
