Through our Adopt a Turkey project, we reach millions of people every year with a message of compassion for turkeys.

The generous support we receive through this program allows us to rescue countless turkeys and rehabilitate them at our New York and California sanctuaries, with nutritious food, shelter, medical care, and love.

This year’s featured flock is full of colorful personalities ... meet Elsa.

Elsa “The Wallflower”:

Elsa is the low-key member of the flock. She is quite content to keep to herself and let others do the squawking. A factory farm survivor, Elsa bears the scars of her brutal upbringing: she arrived debeaked—a cruel (but routine) industry practice where farmers cut birds’ sensitive beaks to prevent fighting in overcrowded conditions. In her past life, Elsa was clearly seen as an object, not an individual.

Turkeys are sentient animals with complex emotional lives and remarkable talents. Fun fact: They have exceptional eyesight, seeing three times more clearly than humans, with a 270-degree field of view. They can also see the full visible color spectrum and even ultraviolet light!
