We have some tough news: the California Citizens Redistricting Commission just made some dramatic changes to the district we all worked so hard to flip in 2018.
Unfortunately, this morning, disregarding scores of public comments from members of the community, the Redistricting Commission severed off the entire southern portion of the current 49th District — including the southern portion of Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Cardiff, Del Mar, and UCSD.
We have built so many amazing relationships with every community in the 49th District, and our team has worked around the clock to do everything we can to improve both the District itself, and the lives of the people from Dana Point all the way down to UC San Diego.
Over the next few weeks, as the numbers become available, we will begin a deep dive to determine next steps, and I promise to keep you informed along the way.
What I do know is that between now and the end of the year, I need to raise as much as I possibly can to ensure we will have the necessary resources to compete and win next year.
