Here in California we’re dealing with some crazy price hikes - especially the cost of gas ($5 a gallon?!) One of the causes for many of these crazy prices is a big backlog at our ports.

And unlike some of my colleagues who get on TV and just complain, I actually wanted to do something about it.

So I’m happy to share that a group of us got together to push our bill - the Ocean Shipping Reform Act - and last week it passed the House!

First and foremost, this is going to help us lower costs because it’s going to make it less expensive to ship goods. Second, it’s going to decrease the backlog so you aren’t waiting so long to get the gifts you need for Christmas, and to help keep the shelves stocked. And finally, it’s going to help us fight China’s influence on our shipping markets.

We pulled together a big coalition of support to get this done including a bipartisan group of Democrats and Republicans. I know it’s not the most newsworthy of issues, but it really is going to help our families make the most of their paychecks.

What I’ll say in conclusion is this - I hope I’ve been proving to you that I’m strong in my convictions and also determined to get past the political divides to get real things done. That’s why I ran for office and I’m staying laser focused on it.
