Dear John,
Heading into Christmas and the New Year, New York Democrats have made one thing very clear: It is full speed ahead for their destructive and dangerous agenda that is crushing small businesses, killing our economy, and making our communities less safe. As if that weren't enough, they are now attempting to override the will of the people and manipulate future elections. On Election Day, we defeated the Democrats' ballot propositions that would have legalized rigged elections and now Kathy Hochul is going to do it anyway. This is NOT how Democracy works. Hochul was not elected Governor and should not be unilaterally overturning statewide electoral decisions. New Yorkers said NO in 2021 and are ready to do it again in 2022 when we elect a Republican Governor to clean up the mess.
This week also saw Kathy Hochul continuing to prove that she is totally in over her head. First, she comes out with a ridiculous mask mandate that will crush New York small businesses. Then after counties pushed back, she immediately folded and said she wouldn't force them to comply. She is weak, not ready to lead, and doesn't have the experience or competence to be the Chief Executive of the Empire State.
Sincerely,

Question:
Should the governor be allowed to unilaterally issue statewide mandates or should it be up to counties and localities to make the best choices for their residents?

It's been almost two years since bail reform laws went into effect in New York state. Now local officials and state politicians are calling for those laws to change. On Friday, Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard and Sheriff-elect John Garcia were joined by U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, state Sen. Pat Gallivan and State Republican Party Committee Chariman Nick Langworthy. They're all calling for bail reform to be repealed. They say New York is failing when it comes to criminal justice. "I think I can categorize what we see in this bail reform, this catch-and-release bail reform program is nothing but a con by politicians from Albany and downstate that are trying to convince the good intelligent people of the state that crime is down in our state because prison populations are down,” Howard said. “When in fact it's just the opposite. Crime continues to increase because of the releases that are being made."

“Kathy Hochul is in over her head,” New York GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said in a statement. “First she comes out with a ridiculous mask mandate that will crush New York small businesses. Then after counties pushed back, she immediately folded and said she wouldn’t force them to comply.” Langworthy called Hochul “weak and not ready to lead.”
“Kathy Hochul just doesn’t have the experience or competence to be the chief executive of the Empire State,” Langworthy added.

Republicans and some Democrats opposed the measure. Some argued that the bill’s 30-day residency requirement to vote is too short. “We pledge action, legal or otherwise, any means necessary to stop this dangerous legislation from undermining our elections,” New York GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy told news outlets last week, arguing that it will “allow foreign powers” to have the “ability to influence U.S. elections.” Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, in a statement, said that with the passage of the bill, “American citizens should decide American elections—full stop.” “Today’s decision in New York is the product of a radical, power-hungry Democrat Party that will stop at nothing to undermine election integrity,” McDaniel said.

Outgoing Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says she would have won reelection if State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) hadn't been on the Democratic ticket for Nassau district attorney. Throughout the district attorney campaign, Republicans attacked Kaminsky as the "author" of new state bail reform laws that eliminated cash bail for most misdemeanors and nonviolent crimes. Asked about Kaminsky recently on WABC's radio talk show "Bernie & Sid in the Morning," Curran said, "There’s no doubt in my mind that I would have won if he were not on the ticket. I lost by about 2,100 votes." Curran continued, "As I was out and about, knocking on doors, talking to people, people would be like, 'Well I really like you, I’m a Republican. I’m thinking of voting for you. But this Todd Kaminsky guy, I don't know, I don’t like it.'

As more and more Americans taste the bitter fruit of Democratic policies and contrast it with the prosperity of the pre-pandemic Trump years, the Democrats face a reckoning in 2022 and beyond. As 2021 elections are demonstrating, traditional blue-collar, Hispanic, and rural Democratic voters are beginning to abandon the party. Democrats will face two choices going forward: Either moderate their policy agenda to appeal to their voters, or find a new pool of voters to replace the ones they no longer agree with. Coincidentally (or not), a tsunami of new potential voters is swarming across the southern border unimpeded, all of whom will owe their successful entry to the policies of Democrats.
