The Senate just went home.

Indivisibles,

We’re disappointed, yes, and angry too.

Here’s the deal: This morning Senate went into recess for the year, having done nothing to pass democracy reform (which, just 48 hours ago Sen. Schumer said he was going to “move ahead aggressively” on) or Build Back Better (which President Biden assured progressives he had the votes to pass in the Senate when we got it through the House for him).

That means Democrats are going on vacation today without taking action on our top priorities. It’s infuriating. We’re going to send a lot more details on where we go next over the coming weeks (even if they go home, we’re working next week!) but in the near term, here’s what we need from you.

If you have a Democratic Senator:

They need to know this is unacceptable, and that you’re watching. Click here to call the dems who represent you and tell them two things: First, you’re livid that they went on vacation without doing anything on voting rights or Build Back Better. Second, that they are not invited home again until they pass these bills. Once they’re back in January, no more recess until they do their homework. You can also call them directly at 1-866-701-6025.

If you only have GOP Senators or don’t have representation at all:

We’re counting on you to pressure President Biden. He claims that these bills are his top domestic priorities, and he needs to leave no stone unturned to get it passed. First, click here to tell Biden to do whatever it takes (calling every Senator at home, using his bully pulpit, whatever it takes) to get Senate Democrats in line and pass these bills. Then click here to tweet at White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain and tell him the same thing

We’re going to go yell into a pillow for a few minutes, and then we’ll be back with more analysis of where this puts us and what comes next. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the most up-to-date news, and we’ll see you on Monday with our weekly action items newsletter.

In (furious) solidarity,
Indivisible Team

P.S. -- Want to do one extra thing? Chip in $5 to help us keep our call tools active, fund ads targeting persuadable Senators and much more. Don’t do this instead of taking other actions though! The actions are the most important!

Indivisible Project is a locally-led, people-powered movement of thousands of local groups in red, blue, and purple states, and in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our mission is to power and lift up a grassroots movement of local groups to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders, and realize bold progressive policies.

Grassroots donations, not foundations or large gifts, are our single largest source of funding. That means we’re accountable to, and fueled by, Indivisibles on the ground. Chip in $7 to keep fueling our movement.
