Folks,

We’ve made a lot of progress in the fight against flavored e-cigarettes and the rise of teen smoking here in North Carolina. Before the year ends, I want to give you a quick update on the steps we’re taking to protect young people from the dangers of e-cigarettes and teen nicotine addiction.

I was the first attorney general in the nation to take JUUL to court over two years ago for targeting its design and marketing to minors, using lax age verification techniques, and misrepresenting the dangers of nicotine to its consumers. Then, this past summer, North Carolina was the first state to hold them accountable, winning an agreement with JUUL that required the company to pay $40 million to our state to help kids conquer their addiction and drastically change the way it does business.

Our work didn’t end there. More recently, I filed a lawsuit against JUUL’s founders and early investors — who personally participated in their company’s marketing strategy to attract young users to their products, shamelessly lining their own pockets with billions of dollars by addicting kids to nicotine.

I’m also leading a statewide investigation into several companies that create kid-friendly flavors and target their marketing to young people. We’re investigating e-cig manufacturer Puff Bar, a distributor, and a number of retailers to ensure they aren’t profiting off kids. And where I find any illegal behavior, I will not hesitate to take legal action.

I’m committed to protecting the next generation of North Carolinians from nicotine addiction. That’s why the work of my office is not done; there is still more to do to hold JUUL’s founders and other e-cigarette companies accountable for the huge rise in teenage vaping.

If you’re proud of North Carolina for taking the lead on this very important issue and ready to keep fighting for more accountability, join our team by adding your name below.

I’m proud to work everyday to fight for the health and safety of North Carolinians, particularly kids. Thanks for being a part of the team that helps me do it.
