John,
Some deep pockets are lining up to influence Senator Joe Manchin. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is running ads in West Virginia, thanking Senator Manchin for single-handedly slowing down the Build Back Better Act.1
We are not going to let Big Money and corporate America win!
Just in the last two weeks, CHN helped organize a bike rally in Charleston, West Virginia designed to get media attention on the need to pass Build Back Better. We helped make sure local advocates got on the radio throughout the state, explaining how this historic legislation will make a meaningful difference in the lives of West Virginians. And we launched digital ads at newspapers throughout West Virginia (including in Joe Manchin's hometown) which prompted people throughout West Virginia to contact Manchin's Senate office to demand he support the Build Back Better Act.
Our efforts are working. We got Machin's attention.
Can you pitch in to keep the pressure on Joe Manchin and demand he vote YES on the Build Back Better Act?
DONATE
The Associated Press writes: "Manchin’s reluctance to endorse the Biden administration’s expanded child tax credit program is rippling through his home state of West Virginia."2
And no wonder, according to the AP, people in West Virginia understand that the expanded Child Tax Credits are helping, literally, hundreds of thousands of kids in their state.
"On Dec. 15, CTC payments went out to 181,000 West Virginia families, according to Treasury Department figures. The payments averaged $446 and reached 305,000 children. Those payments could end this month, if the Biden package doesn’t pass in the next few days."
The Child Tax Credit has already reduced childhood poverty by more than 40 percent! And has given families direct cash aid to help alleviate mounting financial pressures. If Senator Manchin doesn't vote "YES" on the Build Back Better Act, this direct help will stop.
And Joe Manchin's constituents understand that.
Together, let's keep up the pressure on Senator Manchin. Policies, such as the expanded Child Tax Credit, signed into law by President Biden earlier this year, have started to lift millions of American children out of poverty—we cannot let that expire in the New Year.
If you can afford it, donate $5 or more today to keep up the grassroots pressure on Joe Manchin. We’re fighting back against the deep pockets of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, demanding Senator Manchin listen to working families, not the Big Money interests.
Thank you for all you do to demand accountability from our political leaders and to fight for the needs of working families, the vulnerable, the sick and the poor.
