I have good news for our democracy, John —
Last week, I proudly voted the Protecting Our Democracy Act through the House. This package of pro-democracy reforms will prevent the abuse of executive power and restore Congress as a meaningful check on executive authority.
A year ago today, the House passed Articles of Impeachment against Donald Trump. I was the first member of the Pennsylvania delegation to call for Trump's impeachment. His crimes against the American people and our democracy were a wake up call that we needed to strengthen accountability and transparency in our government.
The Protecting Our Democracy Act will ensure no person is above the law — even the president. It will prevent the abuse of presidential pardons, suspend the statute of limitations on federal crimes committed by a president or vice president, and more.
Our democracy is precious. It is vulnerable. I will fight to hold Trump — and any corrupt leader — accountable, and the Protecting Our Democracy Act is a step toward justice. Will you join me in calling on the Senate to bring the Protecting Our Democracy Act to a vote? Add your name next to mine.
In solidarity,
Dwight
