Dear John, The U.S. Forest Service just opened the registration for three public comment meetings in January as part of their process to collect public input on the proposed 20-year ban on copper mining on federal lands within the Boundary Waters watershed.
We need your voice now! There are three opportunities to have your voice heard. Don’t wait to sign up – there are limited spots. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., CST Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., CST Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., CST When you sign up, you can select if you’d like to provide a verbal comment. The agencies will use a lottery system to randomly select speakers from the list of registrants who will then be called upon to make an up to 3-minute comment during the public meeting.
Save the Boundary Waters will be providing opportunities for assistance with crafting your comment in the case that you're selected to speak, so be sure to indicate that you’d like to be put in the speaker lottery when you register!
For the Wilderness,
Ingrid Lyons Interim Executive Director Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness
