The animals thank you for your support in 2021
Thank You for Helping LCA Make a Difference in 2021!

Dear John,

As 2021 draws to a close, LCA would like to thank everyone who took action on campaigns, made a donation, and supported LCA. It's ONLY because of people like you that LCA can continue the fight to end animal exploitation. From precedent-setting legal victories, to exposing cruelty and advocating for animals, below are some of the important milestones LCA achieved thanks to your support in 2021.

Marineland Canada Charged Based on LCA's Legal Complaint

December 2021 - The Niagara Regional Police Service charged Marineland with violating provisions of the 2019 Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act based on a complaint filed by LCA.

The police investigation found that Marineland violated the Act by using dolphins and whales for entertainment performances without a license in August 2021. An investigator with LCA was in attendance and documented the shows using dolphins and beluga whales. Marineland has been ordered to appear in court to answer to the charges on February 14, 2022. Holding cetacean performances without a license has been illegal since 2019, when Canada passed the historic Act, yet Marineland continued to hold these performances on a regular basis. Dog Meat Trade Undercover Investigation Leads to Raid and Dogs Rescued

July 2021 - LCA and sister organization ALW released an extensive, 8-month undercover investigation into the Moran Market, a.k.a. the "Mecca of Dog Meat", documenting cruelty in auctions, farms, and slaughterhouses. Narrated by Kim Basinger, the investigation exposed horrendous cruelty and direct violations of S. Korea's Animal Protection Act. Watch the investigation here.

LCA and ALW, along with Police and Animal Protection Officers, raided two illegal slaughterhouses documented in the investigation. Nine dogs -  Waterboy, Rown, Blossom, Vandal, Lorian, Naru, Chunsam, Star and Ally - were rescued from the slaughterhouse. LCA partnered with START Rescue to place the dogs in adoptive homes in the U.S.

The dogs safely arrived between September and November. Blosson (now Abby) and Waterboy have been adopted into loving homes. Brothers Vandal and Lorian are up for adoption as a bonded pair. Rown is up for adoption through the Oregon Dog Rescue. Naru, Chunsam, Star and Ally will be up for adoption soon.

Millbank Fur Farm Pleads Guilty

March 2021 - Millbank Fur Farm, a mink fur farm in Ontario, Canada, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with prescribed standards of care under section 11.1(1) of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and paid a monetary penalty. LCA's undercover investigation revealed severe animal suffering and neglect among the 40,000 mink, who live and die annually, at Millbank.

The LCA Millbank investigation marks the first time an Ontario fur farm has been convicted as a result of an undercover investigation by a non-profit. Learn more here.

LCA Continues Lifesaving Work at Virunga National Park, Protecting Mountain Gorillas and the Brave Rangers

Since 2016, LCA has been the major supporter of Virunga’s AirWing program. A functional and modern AirWing program provides the best possible tool for the park in their anti-poaching, conservation and security efforts. 2021 saw the completion of the fortification and overhaul of the Katale/LCA airfield hangar and ranger barracks, as well as a 2nd BatHawk aircraft added to the AirWing fleet. In 2022, with your support, LCA will continue to provide support to Virunga’s AirWing, including training for two Virunga Rangers to become BatHawk pilots. Learn more here.
