Subject: We’ve got work to do

Hi John,

The mass shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan two weeks ago briefly shocked the nation back into awareness about the public health emergency that is gun violence. Already, outrage has faded and the news cycle has moved on. But we haven’t moved on.

And we know you haven’t either. We are more determined than ever to make bold progress in the fight against gun violence, in honor of all victims and survivors.

We are more determined than ever because while public, indiscriminate mass shootings like Oxford have been less common since the start of the pandemic, just about every other type of gun violence has skyrocketed. 2021 is on track to be the deadliest year in decades.

This week, we told you about our plans for the year ahead. We are ready to prohibit high-capacity magazines and untraceable firearms, expand protections against armed intimidation, secure meaningful funding for community-based violence prevention programs, and more. But we’re facing an uphill battle. Our opponents are fired up and the strain of the pandemic could undo all of our progress.

We know what needs to be done to protect our schools and communities from the scourge of gun violence. We have the expertise and experience to get meaningful, evidence-based gun safety policies and programs passed, but right now we don’t have the resources we need to make sure we can get it done. Can you pitch in $22 today to support our lifesaving work in 2022?

This year, we took on the challenges posed by the pandemic, armed extremists, and record-breaking gun sales and we won. We saw a remarkable TEN community safety bills pass through the legislature. That was only possible because of the dedication of supporters like you. With your help, we can overcome the obstacles ahead and keep our communities safe.

Please, donate today to help us continue fighting to end preventable gun violence.

Thank you,
Renée (she/her)
