As 2021 comes to a close, let's reflect on the year behind us. Together, we have seen great victories for our communities and initiatives, such as the passing of BERDO 2.0, the appointment of an environmental justice rider and a worker on the new MBTA board, and more. The new year will offer opportunities for continued activism, support, and assistance for our communities and our families.
We are excited about our upcoming work in 2022 and look forward to fighting alongside all of you. 🚨 New Report
Un-Fare Deal: How Fare Policy at Baker’s MBTA Transfers Wealth from Riders to Corporations
Public Transit Public Good recently released a shocking new report about the MBTA’s privatized fare collection system. While low-income riders bear high costs for public transportation, two billionaire corporations are set to make millions of dollars from an upcoming privatization contract. The report highlights the inequality of the MBTA’s current system and the urgent need to provide relief for low-income communities and working families, and invest Progressive sources of revenue into transportation.

Igniting Justice and Progressive Power
We are excited to share that Community Labor United is featured in Igniting Justice and Progressive Power, a recently published book about power-building and PowerSwitch Action (formerly Partnership for Working Families) projects. The book’s seventh chapter, “Community Labor United: Building Bridges in Greater Boston” focuses on CLU’s campaigns and our history in the Greater Boston area.

GBLC Awards Night 2021
The Greater Boston Labor Council held their annual awards night on December 7. We are pleased to share that our Executive Director, Lee Matsueda, was honored alongside other leaders in the labor movement. SIGN NOW: Stop the state from ending the key pandemic emergency rental assistance program
Homes for All Massachusetts, Mass Law Reform Institute, and Mass Coalition for the Homeless are calling on allies in organized labor, congregations, and community groups to sign this letter and join the push to protect rental assistance that would prevent unjust eviction and additional burdens on families and individuals already in crisis due to the pandemic. The Baker administration has abruptly decided to ramp down emergency rental assistance – even though there are millions in unused, available federal funds that could be utilized to continue this critical help.
Key changes that will begin to ramp down the program take effect January 1, 2022 unless we push the Governor, DHCD, and the State Legislature to act NOW.

Standing in Solidarity with Amazon Workers
In response to the warehouse collapse in Edwardsville, Illinois, the Athena coalition has launched a fundraiser to support the workers and families impacted. We stand in solidarity with those affected and call on Amazon to take responsibility for this tragedy. This fundraiser will provide critical aid to help communities recover and rebuild.
