Hi —

On Wednesday night, the Pennsylvania House passed a vote to disapprove of a popular effort to have Pennsylvania join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) – a multi-state program that has proven to reduce carbon emissions and create jobs in the clean energy sector.

This vote shows – once again – that legislators care more about pursuing their own agenda and less about focusing on things their constituents care about.

We need to tell every legislator that Pennsylvania deserves this investment in our economy, public health, and environment and that it’s time to vote for our values. Hold your representative accountable for supporting recent tactics delaying Pennsylvania from joining RGGI, or thank them if they voted against these actions. [[link removed]]

We’re seeing more massive tornadoes like the ones that hit Kentucky and destructive hurricanes like Ida, and they are becoming deadlier and more expensive to rebuild from — and they are only one of many impacts caused by climate change.

RGGI would be a major step to address the causes of these deadly storms. By putting a price on pollution, it generates revenue to invest in the transition to clean energy while bringing down carbon emissions. Nearly a dozen other states have seen it work, and it’s time for Pennsylvania to join this successful program.

Legislative leaders know their efforts to block us from joining RGGI have reached a dead end. But instead of moving on, they’re trying to use votes like this one to distract their constituents from the fact that they aren’t solving very real problems facing Pennsylvania families , like the fact that low-wealth and Black and Brown families have been suffering for decades from the power plants and incinerators that are in their communities — even if their stories aren’t getting the kind of media attention they deserve.

Help us tell them we’re paying attention. Find out how your lawmaker voted, and send them a message to hold them accountable for their vote. [[link removed]]

Thanks for all that you do.
