Dear John,
The corporate media has been fixated endlessly about the supposedly “massive” cost of the House-passed Build Back Better bill, which will cost approximately $2.2 trillion over 10 years.
And yet the Senate just passed $768 billion for one year of military spending. That’s FOUR TIMES bigger than Build Back Better. $24 billion more than the Pentagon even asked for. And the same corporate media barely batted an eye.
Let me get this straight.
We just ended the longest war in U.S. history, and still spend more on the military than the next 12 countries combined, but we can’t afford paid family leave, universal pre-K, or serious action on climate?!
You’ve got to be kidding me. This is the most blatant media bias I’ve seen in my 50 years in politics, and it’s up to us to get the truth to the American people.
Here’s the thing: If the American people understood how their taxpayer dollars are really being spent, they wouldn’t stand for it for one minute.
But because the elite media consensus supports the massively bloated Pentagon budget, these huge spending bills pass with almost no debate or scrutiny. Republicans get to reward their massive defense contractor campaign donors, and most Democrats are terrified of being accused of not supporting the troops.
If we just canceled the sea-launch nuclear missile the Navy says it has no use for and the additional F-35 fighters that no one asked for, there’d be enough money to expand Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing.
In fact, the $25 billion increase that the Pentagon didn’t request is roughly equivalent to the entire budget of the Centers for Disease Control.
Increasing military spending after we just ended our longest war in history is bonkers, and the people know it: polls show twice as many Americans want to decrease military spending as those who want to increase it. Where do they want their tax dollars to go instead? Social services! Hello?!
Enough is enough. We’re done waiting for the corporate media to tell the people the truth. We’re going around them to alert the public directly with viral videos, explainers, and scientifically tested social media content that is proven to be effective for persuading people across the political spectrum.
Thank you for helping us get the truth out,
