Good afternoon friend,

This has been a landmark year for the assisted dying campaign and it’s all thanks to you . From backing an Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Lords and proposals for a
new one in the Scottish Parliament, to securing the promise of law change in
Jersey. From gaining editorial support from the Sunday Times to the BMA dropping
their long-standing opposition to change, it’s really been an incredible year.

I’ve led Dignity in Dying for over a decade and this past year has seen some of
the most sustained and ambitious campaigning in our history. You have come
through for the campaign again and again - inviting your MP to parliamentary
meetings, donating to crowdfunders at pivotal moments and writing to Peers so
that they had the information they needed to back a more compassionate law at
Second Reading. Take a look at what you’ve made possible.

The UK is ready for an assisted dying law that is safe, fair and compassionate.
A law that allows dying people to live better for longer and prevents
unnecessary suffering. A law that doesn’t criminalise compassion or force dying
people into dangerous, lonely deaths behind closed doors. A law that respects
people’s end of life wishes and has the infrastructure in place to ensure they
can be recorded and followed. A law that unequivocally says yes to dignity, yes
to choice, yes to compassion. This year, you have played a part in getting us a large step closer to this
reality. I can’t thank you enough.

Have a safe and peaceful festive season and a very happy New Year.

Warm wishes,

Sarah Wootton
