Friend, the House just voted to hold former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the bipartisan fact-finding inquiry.

This is big news, and it comes not long after Steve Bannon – longtime Trump ally and purported architect of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol – was also held in contempt of Congress, and then promptly indicted by a federal grand jury.

Text messages from the day of the attack show that Meadows received numerous messages from Fox News personalities – including Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity – as the riot unfolded, pleading with Meadows to make the president tell his violent supporters to stand down.

While it's yet unclear what Meadows did during the attack itself, what we know is that a day before the riot, he was well aware of the coup to keep Trump in power – even receiving a plan to overthrow the election in a PowerPoint presentation.

The details outlined in the presentation included recommending that then-President Trump declare a "national security emergency" over foreign interference in our electronic voting systems in order to invalidate all votes cast electronically – and then activate national units to oversee a "recount" of paper ballots only.

The fact that the president's top adviser was in possession of such a plan illustrates the extent to which the plot to undermine the 2020 election reached the highest levels of the Trump administration.

The chilling PowerPoint presentation also suggests what we feared all along: The corrupt former president was being advised by some to take authoritarian measures in order to cling to power.

Yet in spite of all that's been revealed, the vast majority of Republicans are still standing by, defending, and emboldening Donald Trump. They're counting on Americans like you to speak up. To let it slide. To be too busy to care. They're trying to sweep all of this under the rug and bank on people looking the other way. I know Americans like you refuse to let that happen, which is why I must once again ask for your help to hold Donald Trump and his co-conspirators accountable.

In light of these documents that show the Trump administration considered a coup, please speak out: Should criminal charges be considered for Donald Trump, members of his administration, and members of Congress who aided the Jan. 6 insurrection? Click if you agree – I need grassroots Democrats like you to speak out by the thousands.

This isn't the last sliver of truth to come out. Not in the slightest. The more we learn, the more we must push to hold Donald Trump accountable for his attacks on America. Thank you for doing your part.

Dick
