Even Scientists are Warning Scientism is a Problem

By: The Daily Citizen

How do we really know what is real and true? Increasingly, people are of the belief that science is the only sure way of knowing what’s what. “Follow the science …” and “You can’t argue with science …” we are told, as if it is the one fool-proof guide toward certain knowledge. But is this necessarily so?

First of all, contrary to those clever, colorful yard signs peppering progressives’ homes, no one really doubts that science is real. No one. We all drive cars, refrigerate our food, visit the doctor when sick, are big fans of hospitals, and understand that planes and computers are not magic. We all admit we rely on science.

But this certainly does not mean that science is the only way of knowing what is true. This belief is actually a faith called “scientism” and interestingly, leading science writers are admitting that some of their peers are going a bit too far with it.

Stop Using COVID As an Excuse to Not Go to Church

By: Paul Batura

It’s been almost 22 months since the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic, a catastrophic turn that upended life as we knew it.

Almost overnight, offices emptied out, businesses shut down and schools and churches were forced to go online, if at all. “Fifteen days to flatten the curve” turned to months and then a year as health and political officials worked furiously to get a handle on the evolving crisis, especially when there were more questions than answers.

Over time, response to the pandemic turned political as “red” and “blue” states attacked the virus in disparate ways – simultaneously incurring both wrath and praise from critics and local residents. Depending upon the month, one approach seemed more effective than the other.

As we approach the two-year mark of a virus blamed for over 800,000 domestic deaths and well over 5 million worldwide, the vast majority of Americans are learning to live with the threat of the evolving illness. Travel has rebounded, sport stadiums are filling up, restaurants are busy again and the vast majority of schools are open for in-person learning.

At the same time, one key and vital area that seems to be lacking in the rebound is church. According to the Barna Group, attendance is still down between 30% and 50% prior to the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020.

In Our ‘Age of Unreality,’ Fix Your Gaze on Jesus Christ

By: Zachary Mettler

Former president Ronald Reagan once quipped, “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

President Reagan’s wit and wisdom are just a couple of the reasons why he’s remembered so fondly by millions.

But, dare I try to improve upon the Gipper’s quip, I’d contend his statement should be broadened beyond the binary of “liberal” and “conservative.”

For we live in an age shaped and created by unreality. Many of us believe and shape our lives around “so much that isn’t so,” not just liberals.

Indeed, there are vast swaths of Americans on both sides of the political aisle, red and blue, who live in an ill-conceived world that’s controlled and contrived. A world that’s unreal.

Our technological advancements and modern-day trinkets take our ability to live in a made-up world to the next level. This collective tendency to live in a world made of our own devices traces back to our first parents, Adam and Eve.

In Genesis 3:5, the Serpent tempted our first parents by telling them, “You will be like God.”

Now, in the modern era, our ability to live in a world we’ve created allows us to “be like God” more than ever before.

J.K. Rowling Attacked For Saying Male Rapists Aren’t Women – No Matter How They ‘Identify’

By: Jeff Johnston

J.K. Rowling, author of the best-selling Harry Potter series, is being castigated and threatened on social media (again, see here, here and here) for saying that males who identify as women aren’t really women.

This time, she posted a tweet about the Scottish police prosecuting male attackers as women, if the male simply identifies as female. The Scottish Sun reported the news on December 11, quoting Detective

Superintendent Fil Capaldi, “The gender identification of individuals will be based on how they present or self-declare, which is consistent with the organisation’s values.”

There’s no requirement for a male suspect to have “transitioned” – surgically, hormonally or legally – he can just claim to be a woman.

Rowling quoted oxymoronic slogans from “Newspeak,” the thought control language of Oceania in George Orwell’s 1984, then added one of her own: “The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”

The Scottish Sun article quoted former Holyrood (home of the Scots Parliament) Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill (in the tweet above) who said, “As a lawyer for 20 years and Justice Secretary for almost eight, I’ve seen some legal absurdities. But this tops it all and is dangerous. It’s physically impossible and is about dogma overriding common sense.”

South Dakota Governor Introduces ‘Protecting Fairness in Women’s Sports Act’

By: Bruce Hausknecht

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has drafted a bill prohibiting participation of transgender athletes on teams designated for females and males.

The draft of the law, entitled “Protecting Fairness in Women’s Sports,” looks similar to bills passed in a handful of states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia. Idaho’s law was struck down by a federal judge and is in litigation.

The South Dakota bill states:

“Any interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural, or club athletic team, sport, or athletic event that is sponsored or sanctioned by an accredited school, school district, an athletic association or organization, or an institution of higher education under the control of either the Board of Regents or the Board of Technical Education must be designated as one of the following, based on the biological sex at birth of the participating athletes:

(1) Females, women, or girls;

(2) Males, men, or boys; or

(3) Coeducational or mixed.

“Only female athletes, based on their biological sex, may participate in any team, sport, or athletic event designated as being for females, women, or girls.
