Dear John,
For too long, people like me and you have been left out.
Developers, landlords, and big banks have gentrified our neighborhoods and evicted us from our homes. Private insurance companies have put a price tag on our health and well-being. And we’ve been targeted by a justice system that doesn’t value our lives.
Our representatives are supposed to fight for us, but instead, they’ve only fought for power and influence over our communities. I’ve spent my career organizing inside and outside the halls of power — and I’ve learned that New Jersey’s elected officials serve party bosses and special interests, not us. Case in point: my opponent has taken thousands of dollars from corporate PACs run by Exxon Mobil, pharmaceutical giant Merck, and the American Association of Oil Pipelines.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We can elect real progressive leaders who will fight for housing justice, Medicare for All, and a Green New Deal.
I know what it’s like to be left out. My family was left out when we almost lost our home during the 2008 financial crisis. I was left out when my insurance faltered and I couldn’t afford life-saving medication.
I’ve spent my entire career fighting to dismantle New Jersey’s political machine, standing up against the corporate establishment, and protecting members of our community who have been left behind. Now, I’m running for Congress to continue that fight.
Thank you for being on my team.
