Nottingham City Council has just been awarded more funding from the government?s Levelling Up fund. ?1m from the grant will go towards expanding the network of community charging hubs for people without off street parking. Although detailed work on this project will commence in the new year early indications are that 8 new community charging hubs will be provided, which typically consist of one rapid and three fast chargers per hub.
Over the last few years the Council has successfully rolled out a network of electric vehicle charge points which have been made available for public use. Aligned with the phasing out of petrol and diesel vehicles the Council is seeking to expand the existing network of publicly available electric vehicles charging infrastructure to keep up with the increasing demand for battery electric vehicles.

An Upgraded model of e-scooter will be introduced to Nottingham?s streets in the coming weeks. Wind UK will be rolling out the Link e-scooter in partnership with US company SuperPedestrian. The new e-scooter promises to offer additional performance and safety features. These include onboard geofencing to cut latency times from an industry average of 30 seconds to just 0.7 seconds. The onboard sensors check the health of the e-scooter 1,000 times per second, if problems occur, it can then be shut down remotely.
A limited number of docking stations will be piloted in a bid to improve parking measures in hotspot areas. Parking will be easier for users and our streets will be tidier. The docking stations come with sides on them so people don't trip over the parked scooters.
Tip over detection will be built into the new e-scooter. If one is knocked over or left on the floor, the e-scooter sensors will recognise this and alert the user to pick it back up and park it correctly. If it's not knocked by the user, the team will be notified, and a patroller will head out to pick it up then park it correctly.?
Monthly safety events will be will begin in January until the summer where free helmets will be given out. The minimum age has now been increased to 18 years old.?
Other new features include:
- In-app customised training for users coming next year
- Greater battery life allows for longer journeys up to 98km!
- New and improved customer service
A new app will have to be downloaded to experience the new way to scoot around the city. This can be downloaded for iOs here and for Android here.?
