A look back on Black History Month
bhm
As part of celebrating Black History Month in October, the Leen Valley Ward Councillors presented the Robert Shaw Primary and Nursery School with a box of diversity books for the school library.
The Headteacher, Karen Cocker, and school the children welcomed the Ward Councillors and thanked them for the contribution of books for their library. It was important that this visit to the school by the Ward Councillors took place during this month when we all come together to focus on the important contributions that have been made by people of colour to this great country of ours. The Ward Councillors believe it is also important that every generation should have the opportunity to read about the diverse community which we all live in and to embrace that diversity, this creates an inclusive, strong and well-adjusted society for all.

Ainsley Estate Area Capital Fund Scheme – very pleased local resident with Councillor Dinnall together with Neighbourhood Operations Manager Glen Simms, Neighbourhood Development Officer, Lylse-Anne Renwick and Simon Dirs, Neighbourhood Cleansing Team Leader.
You Said – We Did Ainsley Road Estate
Whilst on a Ward Walk, residents on the Ansley Road Estate asked the Ward Councillor, Councillor Audrey Dinnall for her support to resolve an issue which was affecting their lives.
The footpath area outside their homes were in total disrepair and crumbling, the footpath was damaged and was a safety concern. The footpath also was unsightly and reflected badly on the estate due to the condition therefore the residents wanted an improvement.
The Ward Councillor saw the seriousness of the issue and funded the resurfacing of the footpath from both Councillor Dinnall and Councillor Saghir joint Area Capital Fund Budget Allocation.

School Street schemes in Leen Valley
Both Councillor Mohammed Saghir and Councillor Audrey Dinnall have been working with the Road Safety Team on a project to install planters on Southfield Road and Dorothy Grove, near the Robert Shaw School area.
The aim of the project is to make walking and cycling easier, and to encourage more sustainable travel, and also to support a green recovery from Covid-19. The planters will be in place at all times and days of the week and will include a tree and some low level shrubs as well as a School Streets banner attached to it. The planters will be installed over the next few months. Community involvement in the upkeep with these planters would be most welcomed.

The Big Eat Out event
leenv
Councillor Audrey Dinnall supported the Big Eat Out event on Melbourne Park during the summer, hosted by FUEL Education. Himmah and the Chayah Development Project provided the food.
Great to see the local community coming together as part of the welcome to Leen Valley for refugees who came to live and settle in the Ward. The event was a great success and the refugees, informed Councillor Dinnall how happy and fortunate they were to have come to settle in the Leen Valley area of Nottingham, they were made to feel welcomed by the residents and are looking forward to continue living working and contributing to the area.

christmas
Things to look out for when buying Christmas presents
Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:
* *Look for the CE or UKCA mark:* These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
* *Button-batteries can kill:* Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
* *Check age restrictions:* Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

Christmas loans warning
bills
*With increases in bills and the cost of living as well as taxes going up and continuing issues around the pandemic, this Christmas will be a tough one for many. *
Taking out payday or doorstep loans is a bad idea - they might seem like an easy way to get cash quickly, but you'll end up paying an arm and a leg due to sky-high interest rates.
The cheapest places to borrow money will always be a bank, building society or Notts and Lincs Credit Union [ [link removed] ]- who may be able to help where others can't if you have a poor credit history.

⚠️ Scam warning ⚠️
Warning – criminals are using the NHS Covid Pass and pretending to be the NHS [ [link removed] ] as a way to *target the public by convincing them to hand over money, financial details and personal information.*
