Donald Trump just announced that Florida Governor Ron Desantis would be a “good” Vice President pick if Trump runs again in 2024. And if Trump doesn't run, Newsweek reports that "Ron DeSantis beats every Republican" in the field.
That's exactly why DeSantis wants to “beef up the state's voting laws,” specifically targeting Democratic women over the age of 60. MSNBC's Maddow Blog reports that DeSantis “doesn't believe drop-boxes should exist anywhere in the state.”
DeSantis knows that if he successfully suppresses the vote in 2022, he'll clear the path for Marco Rubio's reelection and secure his place on the 2024 ticket. If Rubio and DeSantis succeed in turning Florida into a one-party state, that beacon of right-wing authoritarianism will infect the entire country and our democracy will be permanently wounded.
And right now, Val Demings is two points behind Marco Rubio.
