Today Families USA released a new report Improving Maternal and Child Health Outcomes: A Road Map for States to Integrate Evidence-Based Home Visiting into Medicaid Programs. This road map offers a framework for state Medicaid programs to scale up and fund evidence-based home visiting programs to improve outcomes for mothers and their children. The road map outlines options and highlights existing state examples for Medicaid programs to fund these services, from small-scale quality improvement efforts to robust value-based purchasing strategies.

Evidence-based home visiting programs have long demonstrated their effectiveness in improving outcomes and reducing health care costs. It is time for state Medicaid and CHIP programs to sustainably invest in these programs and make these critical services available to their beneficiaries.
