Here's essential information about voting rights ahead of Election Day.

ACLU Supporter –

We're now one year out from the 2020 presidential election, and tomorrow people across the country will be heading to the polls for critical state elections. Make no mistake – politicians will keep trying to suppress the vote any way they can. But we at the ACLU and our four million supporters like you are ready to fight back every step of the way.

Here are the ACLU's latest fights for our voting rights.

In June we sued Florida for its new poll tax intended to roll back the historic gains made by the passage of Amendment 4 last year, which restored voting rights to over a million fellow citizens. Now politicians are trying to destroy that victory with unconstitutional legislation requiring the newly re-enfranchised voters to pay exorbitant court costs, fines, and fees – or lose their hard-fought right to vote. We'll keep you updated on the progress of our lawsuit as a federal court decides whether to uphold this fundamental tenet of democracy.

Earlier this year we filed suit challenging a New Hampshire law that requires all voters to have a local driver's license. The law unconstitutionally restricts the right to vote for students, young people, and those new to the state.

In Tennessee, we're challenging a new law that creates criminal and civil penalties against those who fail to comply with onerous voter registration requirements and turn in "incomplete" applications. The state already ranks among the lowest in voter registration, and laws like this one discourage prospective voters from even trying.

And finally – we're expecting a decision any day now in our lawsuit defending Crystal Mason, a Black woman in Texas who was sentenced to five years in prison for casting a provisional ballot. We partnered with the Texas Civil Rights Project to take on Crystal's case, which shows us what happens when racism and voter suppression collide. You can help by signing this pledge to show your support for Crystal. It could be the difference it takes to sway the outcome of this outrageous case. <[link removed]>

Above all, ACLU Supporter, I need you to remember that the best way to fight back – tomorrow and next year – is to VOTE.

Keep up the fight,
