Dear AU Supporter,
This time last year, I—like you—breathed a tremendous sigh of relief, hoping that a Biden-Harris administration would usher in a return of decency, optimism and the core tenets of democracy, after the Trump administration’s assault on church-state separation. But the insurrection of Jan. 6, a horrifying display of Christian nationalism and anti-democratic values, reminded me that the battle for equality, freedom and nothing less than the survival of the American experiment is more urgent than ever before.
As we wrap up the final weeks of the year, I find myself reflecting on all that we accomplished in 2021, from victories like the Biden administration’s rescinding the Muslim Ban to the re-introduction of the Do No Harm Act in Congress. And I resolve to do everything in our power to be ready for what 2022 has in store for us.
With a staggering number of cases at the Supreme Court with implications for church-state separation, and Christian nationalists making every attempt to turn the definition of religious freedom on its head to justify discrimination, we have our work cut out for us.
But, our work is only possible because of support from donors like you. Please make your tax-deductible gift to Americans United today as your commitment to church-state separation.
As a special incentive, some of your fellow AU supporters created a $75,000 fund to match every year-end gift. Don’t miss out on this chance to double your impact.
As an AU supporter, you are at the forefront of the American majority that must stand up to the divisiveness and violence that Donald Trump and his religious-extremist allies left behind and move our country forward to a more inclusive and harmonious nation.
So I urge you to take full advantage of this valuable matching-gift opportunity.
With your support, AU can forge ahead—just as we have for 75 years—in this critical fight for our fundamental rights…but only with you by our side. Please act on your best hopes for our nation and its future by contributing today.
With hope and determination,
Rachel K. Laser
President and CEO
*Online contributions will be matched through Dec. 31 up to a limit of $75,000. All gifts made in excess of this limit will still provide valuable funding for AU’s efforts to defend church-state separation.
