John, this is bad news:
It's now looking likely that the Build Back Better Act will not pass by the end of the year, as initially planned — all because the Senate couldn't produce the 50 votes to push it through.
The House passed Build Back Better nearly a month ago. For nearly a month, it's been on the Senate to pass the bill in its current state, rather than continuing to obstruct and delay the vote.
Jamaal has made it clear from the start, John: progressives in the House held the line for the people. Now, we need to keep the pressure on the Senate, for as long as we need to until Build Back Better passes.
Build Back Better is historic, and it will be transformational. It is going to change generations of lives in New York's 16th and communities throughout the nation for the better.
Withholding the passage of the Build Back Better Act is actively harmful to our families and communities. Case in point: unless the Build Back Better Act passes, the child tax credit — which, by some reports, has reduced child poverty rates by as much as 28 percent compared to what they would have been otherwise — will end this month.
From health care access to stronger environmental protections, people living in America need tangible solutions to the obstacles they face on a daily basis. Those solutions and visions of hope can finally begin to be realized with the Build Back Better Act, and the Senate must mobilize to vote YES.
