Health Insurance Proclamation Update
Last month, President Trump issued a proclamation that would restrict immigration to the United States by people who are uninsured beginning November 3, 2019. We are very happy to announce that the proclamation did not go into effect over the weekend!
More than 400 hundred organizations who joined a sign on comment in opposition to the proposal during a two-day comment period last week. On Wednesday, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), along with litigators from Justice Action Center (JAC), Sidley Austin LLP, and Innovation Law Lab, filed a lawsuit to halt implementation. Then, on Saturday, a federal judge in Oregon issued a nationwide temporary restraining order. The TRO prevents the proclamation from going into effect and will last 28 days while the case is being argued. Congratulations to the litigation team and thank you to everyone for your continued vocal opposition to this proposal!
