Folks,
This is Illinois Congressman Bill Foster. For years, I was the only scientist and businessman in the U.S. Congress.
I’ve witnessed first-hand as Republicans denied the reality of climate change, tried to intimidate and censor climate and environmental scientists, and tried to block any meaningful action in Congress.
That is one reason that I worked my heart out to get Sean Casten – also a scientist and businessman – elected to Congress in 2018 and 2020; I now have colleagues in Congress with scientific backgrounds who have joined me in the fight to stop the GOP’s anti-science agenda and overcome their inaction on climate change.
And that’s why I’m endorsing Sean again for re-election.
Will you join me in supporting Sean for re-election by chipping into his campaign today?
In Congress, Sean has impressed everyone with his knowledge of climate policy. As a leading voice on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, Sean helped secure the support needed to pass the first major climate bill in the past decade -- The Climate Action NOW Act.
On the Financial Services Committee, I proudly co-sponsored Sean’s bill, the Climate Risk Disclosure Act, which requires publicly traded companies to disclose their climate-related risks. This will ensure our jobs and economy are prepared for the threats ahead and accelerate our transition away from fossil fuels.
And this past year, Sean raised awareness about the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission through the hashtag #HotFERCSummer and helped pass the historic infrastructure bill that takes the necessary first steps to combat the root causes of climate change.
When Republican leadership attacks science, scientists like Sean fight back.
That’s why I promised I would help Sean’s team raise $5,000 online before midnight: Will you help me help Sean by rushing in a donation of $25 or more?
Like me, Sean represents a historically Republican district in the far suburbs of Chicago. And thanks to redistricting, it’s going to be significantly harder for Sean to hold his seat -- the Cook Political Report just downgraded Sean’s district to Lean Dem, which means he’s one rating away from a toss-up. This is going to be a close, expensive race to the finish.
Sean already has a right-wing former mayor running against him, who is backed by his former right-wing opponent, Jeanne Ives. I know how rapidly the winds can change in our far-suburban seats, since I lost my hard-won seat in 2010. With your help, Sean will not be blindsided. So, folks -- can I count on you to make a donation to Sean’s re-election campaign today?
There is simply no substitute for having competent voices for science like Sean Casten in Congress.
Thank you,
Bill Foster
