Senate Democrat Kills Passage of Ban on China Imports Made by Slaves
From the story: Sen. Ron Wyden, Oregon Democrat, stopped the vote Wednesday in a bid to extend President Biden’s child tax credit that’s been making direct payments of up to $300 per month to parents as part of COVID-19 relief. Mr. Wyden’s move marks the latest in a series of obstacles for the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which authorizes sanctions against companies that facilitate the forced labor of Muslim minority groups, including Uyghurs, in Xinjiang and prohibits imports from the region unless Customs and Border Protection determines that no forced labor was used in production ( Washington Times). Wyden’s top corporate donor is Nike ( Open Secrets). From Tom Cotton: John Kerry’s lobbying worked. Democrats just blocked a bill to ban imports made from slave labor in China. Remember this the next time Democrats talk about human rights ( Twitter).

Airline CEO’s Question Mask Mandates on Planes
From the story: The comments from American Airlines CEO Doug Parker and Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly came on Wednesday during a Senate committee hearing on the financial support the industry received during the pandemic. “I think the case is very strong that masks don’t add much, if anything, in the air cabin environment,” Kelly said. “It is very safe and very high quality compared to any other indoor setting” ( Daily Wire). From Bethany Mandel: By now, you’ve seen the viral videos of the families forcibly removed from flights because their child, usually a toddler, is unable or unwilling to be masked for the duration of the flight. Those videos aren’t just traumatic for the unfortunate individuals finding themselves at the center of a firestorm; they have a way of intimidating anyone with a young child or disabled individual unable to mask from even attempting public transportation of any kind ( Deseret).
