GENERAL ELECTION 2019: Help ensure pro-life candidates are elected

As you will know, a Westminster election will be held on Thursday 12 December. Following the imposition of Europe’s most extreme and barbaric abortion law on Northern Ireland, this election may well be the most important one yet for unborn children in Northern Ireland. We must make sure every unborn baby has a voice in Parliament!

With this general election coming up, now is the time to be building up the pressure on politicians to reverse this inhumane, cruel and totally undemocratic law. With all meaningful legal protection stripped away from children in the womb in Northern Ireland, it has never been more important to vote for candidates who will give them a much-needed voice. When it comes to protecting life, this election is crucial.

There are 18 Westminster constituencies in Northern Ireland, meaning 18 seats out of 650 in the Commons are up for grabs. The DUP holds 10 seats, whilst radically pro-abortion Sinn Féin has seven - but its MPs do not take their seats due to a long-standing policy of abstentionism - and independent unionist MP Lady Hermon holds North Down.

We need to ensure that pro-abortion politicians are held to account by the electorate for the pivotal role they played in removing all legal protections from unborn children in Northern Ireland. Further, we need to make sure that politicians who stand up for life, and have a consistent pro-life voting record, are elected in order to give the most defenceless and vulnerable in our society, the unborn, a voice and a platform. With Westminster’s deadly and devastating abortion legislation now law in Northern Ireland, we have a duty to do everything we can to make certain this barbaric law is reversed.

If you are a member of a political party, it will be useful if you:

1. Attend candidate selection meetings for your local party

2. Ask each of the candidates whether or not they would vote for pro-life policies if they became an MP in Parliament

3. Make sure you vote in the selection and encourage other party members you know to do the same.

Please have a look at the guide on our website to find out the political parties’ stance on abortion to inform your vote in the upcoming general election. [[link removed]]
