End-of-Year Donors and Subscribers Needed!
Dear Washington Report readers,

We know that at this time of year you are inundated by fundraising appeals but this is the first and only plea for your help we’ve sent this entire year. And that’s not because we are feeling flush. It’s because we’ve been so busy putting out fires—not to mention magazine issues—that we haven’t called 911! The global pandemic, skilled labor issues, paper shortages, postal problems and changing reading habits crushed an already shaky printing industry. While newspapers and magazines are folding left and right our loyal readers have kept us going. We’re holding our breath as a new printer and fulfillment company help us deliver the Washington Report to your mailbox. We’re crossing our fingers that this email will find all our current, recently lost or sitting on the fence subscribers and you’ll get out your checkbooks!

Frankly, as you know, we’ve been publishing on a shoestring and making do with an overworked staff for four decades. It’s frustrating meeting fired-up journalists and recent college graduates and not being able to hire them full time. Adding two new employees would double our magazine staff, and revolutionize our online presence. It would also help us co-host the Israel Lobby conferences we hold every year with the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) at the National Press Club. (Join us March 3 and 4, 2022! We have exciting plans to add a coffee shop with a Middle Eastern vibe to our very popular bookstore, Middle East Books and More ([link removed]) . Situated next door to the Museum of the Palestinian People, we’ve become a popular destination for young people to gather—a mini community center for Arab-, Muslim-, Jewish- Americans and others in Washington, DC. The bricks-and-mortar bookstore helps students, professors, NGO staff and diplomats keep up with the latest books. (If you missed spoiling yourself, yet another shipment of pottery and keffiyehs just arrived from Jerusalem. Palestinian olive oil from the Fall harvest is filling our shelves.) Visitors from across the country say this bookstore is a gem and they wish they had a similar treasure in their home town.

As an independent, 100 percent reader-supported, non-profit magazine and bookstore, we depend on the generosity of donors ([link removed]) like you to sustain our work. In April, the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs will celebrate its 40th anniversary. We are counting on your generous support to help the magazine and bookstore not just survive but thrive for another 40 years.

Please mail your tax-deductible contribution, made out to American Educational Trust, to P.O. Box 292380, Kettering, OH 45429 or, better yet, go online ([link removed]) . You can also call (800) 607-4410. You’ll receive a letter thanking you for your donation.

You can start up or renew your own subscription or give gift subscriptions ([link removed]) here.
Alone we just muddle along but together we can... Make a Difference—Today and Tomorrow!
