In 2019, anti-faith activists in the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) decided to invent a problem where none exist. They complained to the Department of Defense about Shields of Strength, a small, family-owned company that makes replica military dog tags. The MRFF complained about a scripture verse inscribed on Shields’ dog tags. Just days later, the DOD caved to these empty threats. That’s when Shields of Strength turned to First Liberty.
Now, First Liberty has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Shields in federal court. It is a cruel insult to deny America’s service members and their loved ones a source of inspiration simply because it contains a religious message.
First Liberty is proud to support Shields of Strength in the face of this unjust discrimination. For decades, over a million U.S. Military service members have worn Shields of Strength, to inspire and encourage our men and women as they face the dangers of war.
Watch our general counsel and director of military affairs, Mike Berry, explain First Liberty’s latest action in the video below:
We couldn’t let this discrimination stand and that’s why we’re taking this to court. Shields of Strength founder Kenny Vaughn is passionate about his mission to encourage and inspire our service members. The anti-faith activists who seek to remove Shields from the military must be stopped.
Our service members have worn Shields of Strength for decades. We must pull together to achieve victory as we head to court. This fight cannot be won without your support.
Our veterans and service members need you to help put a stop to this barrage of violations against their religious liberty—including their constitutional right to find strength in their faith.
Will you go all in together with us to help Shields of Strength?
Yes, I will give a gift today!
