Now, I can spend the holidays with the man of my dreams.
Growing up in Honduras, Victor and I realized it was impossible to be openly gay. We were harassed and abused by strangers, teachers, landlords, employers—even our own families.
We needed to flee. After we crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and asked for asylum, we were detained by CBP before being transferred into ICE custody. Together, we survived unbearable conditions like being forbidden to bathe or being forced to sleep on a concrete floor.
We were scared, frustrated, and tired. But Immigration Equality was our rock.
We called the office and within a week, we were working with a lawyer who helped get us released. We desperately needed the support that we couldn’t find at home. Immigration Equality met that need for us.
Now, I am able to spend the holidays with the man of my dreams free of fear and ready to build a new life together.Â
Friend, supporters like you made an impact on our lives by supporting Immigration Equality. Please extend your impact to hundreds of LGBTQ asylum seekers this holiday season.Â
