I wouldn’t normally send you two emails in one day, but just hours after I sent you the good news round up, we received confirmation from the UN Office of Legal Affairs that Guinea-Bissau has submitted its ratification instrument and become the 58th State Party to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Personally, I am so excited to be sharing this news with you today, as I’ve been tracking every step of Guinea-Bissau’s path to ratification, and speaking to all the great campaigners in the region, the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Diplomats and so many others involved in making this happen. This would not have happened without them and I’m delighted to send them ICAN’s deep thanks and congratulations. 



Hopefully this new ratification, so soon after Mongolia’s accession <[link removed]>, will also inspire other countries who are in the final steps of the process to join the treaty ahead of the upcoming deadline, next Wednesday, for states wishing to participate fully in the first Meeting of States Parties (MSP) in Vienna <[link removed]> next March!



We want to see as many states parties as possible at the MSP, and we want to make it the most inclusive UN disarmament meeting ever, no matter what the pandemic throws our way.
