I'm happy to say that the Protecting Our Democracy Act passed the House last week! I've worked hard to get this legislation across the finish line, and I'm proud to have co-sponsored and voted for this legislation to restore our government's system of checks and balances and strengthen accountability and transparency.
President Trump exposed the flaws in our current system and repeatedly exploited the office of the presidency. The Protecting Our Democracy Act will work to prevent future corruption by restoring the guardrails of our democratic systems.
I'm also incredibly proud that the Honest Ads Act that I introduced is included in this legislation. This aims to stop bad actors from using dark money through online ads to influence our democracy and silence the voices of voters – something we should all be able to get behind!
The Protecting Our Democracy Act is an essential step toward rebuilding public trust in our nation's highest office and safeguarding our democracy for future generations. I hope the Senate will soon follow in the House's footsteps and send this legislation to President Biden's desk for a signature.
