Lawsuits take time. But they’re always worth the fight.

John,

Imagine traveling thousands of miles to the U.S.-Mexico border—only to be forced back to the same dangers you fled moments after arriving.

That was the reality of tens of thousands of asylum seekers who came to our ports of entry seeking protection. Many were simply told “the United States was full.” Not only does that violate the law, but documents uncovered during discovery showed it simply wasn’t true.

We sued the government to stop this illegal “turnback” practice, along with our partners at Mayer Brown, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Center for Constitutional Rights.

After four long years of litigation, we made significant progress on the case in 2021 with a major court decision. But we’re still fighting to give teeth—or “remedies”—to that decision so the government can’t deny people access to the asylum process through turnbacks.

Your support keeps us in court. Make a year-end gift to ensure everyone arriving to the United States has access to their due process rights.
