At the end of this email I'm going to ask you to donate before our Five Dollar Drive ends at midnight. (I hope you'll read the whole thing, but if you don't have time, you can click this link to give now.)
I want to explain why hitting the NDRC's end-of-year goal is so essential. The reality is that while about half of the states have already adopted their maps for the next decade, there are two main reasons why our work is far from finished: First, in many states that have adopted gerrymandered maps, like Texas, Ohio, Alabama, and North Carolina, plaintiffs are filing lawsuits to challenge those maps. So those states are effectively still in play.
Second, the states that haven't already adopted their maps include some that will play key roles in the 2022 and 2024 elections, like Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota. I can't overstate the importance of securing fair maps in these states.
For those two reasons, I'm asking you for a donation before midnight tonight. As President Obama put it, if we don’t fight for fair maps now, we won’t have another chance until 2031 (if we even still have a democracy then!).
Let me be clear: rampant Republican gerrymandering and their intentional strategy of diluting the voting power of communities of color and annihilating competitive seats will not be tolerated. The GOP's efforts to cheat their way to control of the U.S. House for the next decade will not succeed.
