Hello everyone,

What a year it has been for our planet! Among the many natural disasters, political upheavals, and numerous crude oil spills literally setting the seas on fire, there have still been many important wins. As we’ve learned over the years, local policy wins can build momentum towards even broader change. These local victories are big enough to keep our chins up and ready to keep fighting for a plastic-free future.

TrashBlitz Denver and TrashBlitz Austin were successful activations of our community science program, with over 110 sites surveyed, 268 volunteers, 10,689 pieces of data collected, and numerous on the ground partners. With this information, we can help these cities shape their plastic pollution policy and educate their community members. In 2022, we plan on expanding TrashBlitz to more cities in Texas, to continue engaging inland communities with plastic pollution solutions.
* Locally, the Reusable LA Coalition led a local #SkipTheStuff campaign which resulted in two foodware accessories ordinances passed in LA County and LA City!
* Statewide, 5 bills were signed into law through our collaborative work with the Clean Seas Coalition on the California Circular Economy Package.
* Nationally, the The Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act was reintroduced in Congress earlier this year. This bold bill would phase out throwaway plastics made from fossil fuels, hold the plastic industry responsible for its waste, and pause the issuance of permits for new plastic-making plants.

With all this progress, it is hard not to look forward to 2022 and beyond. We don’t have much time left to save the planet through real solutions and policy change, so we need your help TODAY!

Thank you for your support, we can’t do this critical work without you.

For a better future,

Alison Waliszewski
