Late last night, I voted to hold Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress. This isn’t something I enjoy doing on a regular basis (I mean… we just had to do this with Steven Bannon for crying out loud), but I know this is about standing up for our democracy and protecting the rule of law.
These dangerous GOP extremists are a huge threat to our democracy, and yet they will hold all the power in Washington if we lose this race and Kevin McCarthy becomes the next Speaker of the House. By now, you’ve probably heard about the texts from FOX News anchors like Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham to Mark Meadows pleading to Trump to stop the insurrection. Yet hours went by without a word from him or the President. Congress has some serious questions for Mark Meadows about what happened and when - he will not get away with skirting our authority, and he knows that.
It also isn’t lost on me that privately these FOX news anchors knew how bad the insurrection was, but publicly spent the next hours and days downplaying it.
GOP extremists took our democracy to the brink of collapse, and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to win back control of Congress so they can continue pushing Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda.
As a swing-seat Democrat in one of the closest races in the country, I know how to beat back a Trump Republican and win a tough race when everything is on the line.
