Hi John,

I want to share one of the most important things about Greenpeace -- the way we’re funded.

We don’t take money from big businesses. We don’t accept government funds. Instead, we’re powered by people just like you.

Running Greenpeace this way means we don’t answer to corporate or political interests. It keeps our campaigns independent.

As Greenpeace's finance director, it’s my job to stay on top of donations like this – keeping track of how many people chip in, making sure every pound received creates the greatest impact.

But after checking the spreadsheets, I can see we need to find 1,695 people to sign up to give a few pounds monthly -- because right now, we’re behind on monthly contributions compared to last year.

John -- for 50 years, Greenpeace has refused government and corporate donations, and instead we’re funded by people like you. Can you help keep it that way by joining the incredible group of supporters who fund our work with a few pounds a month?

As Greenpeace marked turning 50 this year, the past 12 months have been a chance to reflect on victories we've won together, and to focus on the challenges that lie ahead.

From starting out as a small group of activists half a century ago, Greenpeace has grown into a worldwide movement. Today, we run campaigns in more than 50 countries.

From Brazil to Bristol, to Mexico and Manchester, we’re united by a shared belief -- that by working together, we can change the world for the better.

As Greenpeace’s finance director, I know first-hand that monthly contributions help us create long term campaigns, increasing our chances of securing victories for our planet. 80% of our funding comes from contributions like this -- people like you chipping in a few pounds, or whatever they can afford, every month.

John -- I'm hoping to find 1,695 people to sign up to give monthly, and I’m emailing to ask if you’ll be one of them. If we can reach that goal together, it’ll give Greenpeace’s team the green light for truly ambitious campaigns in 2022.

Every contribution we receive is hugely appreciated. And even just a few pounds, donations like this all stack up to make big campaigns possible.

From getting the government to ban ocean polluting microbeads, to stopping big banks funding forest destruction, none of this would have happened without the support of people like you.

Here’s continuing to be independent -- and continuing to win together.

Andy Coates

Finance Director, Greenpeace UK
