High demand for Covid jabs: please keep trying to book

voci

I?m pleased to see that more people are coming forward for their Covid vaccination ? especially now that from today every adult over the age of 18 is eligible for a booster jab. The high demand is putting a strain on the online booking system, but we have been assured by the NHS that they are working to make more appointments available, so please keep trying. If you haven?t already, you can book your Covid jab here NHS: book coronavirus vaccination. Getting vaccinated ? especially with all three doses ? is the best protection we have against the rising number of cases of the new Covid variant Omicron. So it is worth persevering.

Please also remember to stay vigilant when you are out and about: wear a face covering in indoor public spaces and vehicles, and do take a rapid lateral flow before you go out to be confident you are Covid-free. You should also take a PCR test if you have any symptoms of Covid. You can find out more information about both kinds of test here: NHS: Get tested for coronavirus.

Being up to date with vaccinations or having a negative lateral flow test will help with the new Covid passes which come into effect today in venues like nightclubs and concerts. Find out more here: NHS: Covid pass

I?m aware this is a lot to ask of everyone. There is already so much to remember at this time of year, but it is really important that we all do everything we can take care of ourselves and take care of each other this winter.

Green Light in the City

The Green Light in the City pop-up space is open this week between Wednesday and Sunday 12pm-3pm. Head over to the space on Bridlesmith Gate to have engaging conversations about climate change, learn more about how everyone?s actions contribute to our carbon neutral by 2028 ambition, and make pledges to change your lifestyle. As well as the usual activities, the shop is running free festive art workshops on both Saturday and Sunday. There?s no need to book, you can just turn up, but please remember to take a lateral flow test before going and to wear a mask if you can.

As we near Christmas, the gift of advent keeps on giving with the Season?s Greenings calendar. Every day, you can find tips and tricks for having a more sustainable festive season ? from homemade decoration ideas to reducing your food miles. Follow along on Facebook and Twitter.

New e-scooters rolled out this week to improve safety

We?ve been running one of several Government-backed e-scooter trials taking place across the UK since October last year, to find out whether e-scooters could provide a greener, more affordable way to travel. It?s been positive to see so many people giving them a try but as you?d expect during a trial, a number of issues have emerged. This week the scheme operator Wind Mobility will be rolling out a new fleet of upgraded e-scooters, providing a further opportunity to address safety concerns.

The LINK e-scooter, from Superpedestrian, offers a range of additional features to tackle safety concerns, including better ?geofencing,? which helps to keep riders in designated areas.

People will need to download the LINK app to continue using the e-scooters, and the minimum age to ride has been raised to 18 years old, in line with other major UK cities.

New initiative to harness city?s waste heat

Our work towards becoming a carbon neutral city is nothing if not diverse. The Midlands Energy Hub, which is led by Nottingham City Council, is looking for businesses to take part in a study into using waste energy in low carbon horticulture projects.

This innovative study, undertaken in partnership with District Eating, will help those involved generate additional income, reduce waste and CO2 emissions, and contribute to the circular economy.

If you work in industry and produce excess heat or if you?re a grower who is interested in learning about using waste heat on your site, register your interest today: https://districteating.com/press-release-waste/
