John,
This is going to be a long email – we’ve been lucky enough to receive a one-time match gift offer from an anonymous donor and I want to take the time to explain why it’s so important that we take advantage of this opportunity. But I also understand that time is precious: if you don’t have time to read all the way through you can double your donation here: [link removed]]
With the holidays already here, I’ve been thinking about all that I’m grateful for and all the work we have to do in the year ahead. It is so important that we make sure young Latino voters register and turn out to support Democrats in Congress to hold our majorities for the midterms.
I’m so grateful for the team here at Voto Latino, and for grassroots supporters like you who make our work possible. In 2020 we registered more voters in Arizona and Georgia than the Democratic margin of victory -- and as a result, the priorities of our communities are front-and-center in Congress.
Democrats in Congress have begun passing historic investments in public transportation, clean water, and broadband internet access. We’re creating jobs that will help Latino communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic. And at a time when about a third of Latinos live within 3 miles of a Superfund site, we’re finally getting serious about cleaning up the legacy of pollution.
But there’s another critical election coming up in less than a year. If we want to maintain this momentum then we need to be sure we’re ready to do it all again.
I won’t sugarcoat the situation: The outlook for the Democratic majorities in Congress is looking rough right now. Electoral maps have been skewed to favor the GOP in many states and Republicans across the country are already being backed by big dollar donors. The risk of the Latino population being underrepresented in 2022 is very real.
But that’s exactly why supporting organizations like Voto Latino is so critical at this moment. We have proven time and time again that we know how to find, register, and motivate Latinos to vote. We just need your grassroots support to do it. [[link removed]]
The reason our work is so important is simple: It has the power to swing elections. I’ve already mentioned that we registered more voters than the Democratic margins of victory in Georgia and Arizona last year. But you should also know that almost 80% of the Latinos we registered turned out to vote -- and more than half were doing so for the very first time.
That’s why I’m asking you to make a matched donation before tomorrow’s mid-month deadline and help give us the resources to register more young people to vote. Every dollar you give adds up to make an enormous difference, and with the match in effect, you’ll make double the impact by giving right now! [[link removed]]
Thank you again for all of your support,
