Friends,

As I turn the page from October into November I'm profoundly grateful for the experiences I've been able to share with leaders across the country these past few months. Those who have come through my foundation's programs and those who have been engaged on our Community of Practice calls are focused on building better organizations and shifting cultural norms - one decision at a time.

I continue to be inspired by the countless acts of problem-solving that are brought to my attention by our community. To continue to spark further problem-solving, I want to share with you the Collaboration Best Practices Guide we've built at Unlocking Potential and featured through the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

This community is constantly growin
g and reflects the true potential we all have to be better leaders and collaborators. Thank you for being part of this community and focusing on problem-solving alongside me every day.

Sincerely,
"
"Regardless of how bad things may seem, change is only one solution away."

We also delivered a program to Wounded Warrior Project where we brought together wounded warriors, family support members, and staff support for an immersive 1-day ; the average participant rating was 5.0/5.0.

How do we measure success?

An industry-wide measure of customer satisfaction is the Net Promoter Score. The
Net Promoter Score across the three programs was 89; as a reference point, beloved brands and products like Apple, Amazon, and Southwest generate Net Promoter Scores between 65 and 75.

What is By Example?

On By Example, Carly Fiorina explores examples of real leadership and the qualities of all great problem solvers. Each week will feature a new discussion with people you may know, and some you might not. Carly is lifting up the real leaders: people who are focused on changing the order of things for the better and solving real problems that are right in front of them. Leading, by example.

Inside Philanthropy
In Her Latest Chapter, Carly Fiorina’s Philanthropy Focuses on Empowering Nonprofit Leaders

Some might know Carly Fiorina from her recent presidential bid on the Republican ticket. Prior to this, however, Fiorina was a major star in business. After graduating from Stanford and receiving an MBA from the University of Maryland and an M.S. from MIT, she rose through the ranks at AT&T, becoming the first female officer. Fiorina later led AT&T’s spin-out of Lucent Technologies. And in 1999, Fiorina was recruited to Hewlett-Packard Company, becoming CEO and president.

For her efforts, Fiorina is worth $60 million, according to some estimates. She engages philanthropy with her husband Frank, supporting select organizations in their Virginia community and beyond, including United Way Silicon Valley and Year Up. "I started in an unlikely place. I came to business as a secretary in a nine-person real estate firm. Landed there because I just dropped out of law school," Fiorina told me in our recent conversation.

Social problems are best addressed when the private, governmental, and nonprofit sectors are all at the table working together. So, it stands to reason that an individual who’s been the CEO of a Fortune 50 company, run for president of the United States, and has founded and led several nonprofit organizations might have a fresh, interesting, and holistic approach to solving problems, and my next guest absolutely does. She is Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, a Republican presidential candidate in 2016, the Founder of the Unlocking Potential Foundation, as well as the author of Find Your Way.
October & November: Unlocking Potential leads a values-based workshop with Easterseals DC MD VA and a strategic planning workshop with Disaster Services Corporation SVDP USA.
