I can’t believe October is over. We are now only seven months away from our primary election in June.

October started with Brand New Congress endorsing me. In just a few weeks I’ll join the rest of the 2020 slate in Washington D. C. for the Brand New Congress Summit. I can’t wait to meet the other candidates who are setting out to change the heart of Congress.

Last month we also rolled out our first official campaign video. I loved making this video because it allowed me to share my story and why I’m running for Congress. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll watch it and share with your family and friends.

Last week a group of activists and I visited Essex County Correctional Facility which houses ICE detainees. The entire experience was incredibly eye-opening and completely heartbreaking. We met a young man being detained by ICE although he has been in this country since he was 2. He now has to leave the only country he has ever known and be deported to Mexico. I am infuriated that we cage people for seeking a life in the United States, or for simply being brought here by parents who wanted the best for them. We criminalize being black and brown. We MUST abolish ICE, give them a zero dollar budget, and facilitate legal immigration.

Today I’ll be speaking at the NY-12 Candidate Forum for the Democratic Socialists of America’s Lower Manhattan chapter. I hope to see you there (it is open to DSA members who RVSP)!
