Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5 (TOMORROW!) - Donate Now>> PFAW Member, Sadly, Trump Republicans’ campaign playbook of hate and bigotry is once again front-and-center in the Virginia elections this year. One PFAW-endorsed progressive candidate in Virginia, Qasim Rashid, has faced several Islamophobic attacks from his opponent in a blatant attempt to smear Qasim and the progressive values that are the foundation of his campaign. It’s almost as if Republicans in Virginia and across the country have learned nothing from the consequences of the hateful rhetoric they’ve espouse – either that, or they don’t care. And with Election Day in Virginia now less than 24 hours away, several right-wing candidates and the Virginia GOP have been ratcheting up their dishonest attacks on immigrants, Muslims, and progressives in the hopes that it helps them win votes – but that’s not the American Way that I know and love. It’s also not the American Way that my son, U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, fought and died defending. The importance of winning in Virginia this November, and PFAW’s central role in that effort cannot be overstated – and the outcome of these elections will inevitably set the tone for 2020. The outcome of these elections will mean the difference between meaningful gun reform in Virginia, or the Republican status quo of preventing common-sense reforms at the NRA’s behest. It will mean the difference between the final ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, or the continued Republican blockade on enshrining gender equity in the Constitution. It will determine who draws the district maps for the next 10 years and if Republican gerrymandering will continue to suppress democratic representation for vulnerable communities. And, it will determine whether hate and fear can be a winning strategy for Republicans, or if progressive values can rise above the rhetoric and ensure a more fair, equal, and just society for all. People For the American Way and their proven electoral programs are on the front lines, defending progressive values from Republican attacks at the local, state, and federal level …but they can’t do it without the support of members like you Thank you, Khizr Khan
