If we don’t act now, we face losing our freedom

Hello John

On Monday, the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill went through the report stage of the second reading in the Lords. It’s getting dangerously close to becoming enshrined in law and we must act now to stop it.

Under this draconian Bill, most peaceful protest would become a crime, and the police would be handed the tools to silence the voices of ordinary people in the interests of big business.

United for Black Lives have organised a Kill The Bill crowdfunder to fund protest equipment, accessible travel, training and advertising to fight this huge curtailment of our freedoms. Can you support their fight for freedom by donating today?

Here are just some of the chilling impositions on our freedom that the Bill will bring:

  • Locking on will become punishable by a 51 week prison term
  • Police will have the power to use stop and search “without suspicion” in protest contexts
  • Named protesters can be banned from future attending protests

Protest is our most powerful tool against injustice. This Bill will make it even harder for ordinary people to stand up for themselves.

The mainstream media blackout around the Bill makes it all the more urgent that we all get behind this campaign now.

Love and Rage,
Extinction Rebellion UK
