Dear John,

Several of you contacted me today, because you were surprised to receive a fundraising request from my opponent Jordan Marks, and you had no idea how you got on his email list. We do not know how you ended up there, and you are welcome to ask his campaign how they got your contact information. From our initial research, it appears that many of these email addresses were not available in the voter file. Please let me know if you received one.

What’s clear from the email is that Jordan Marks did not expect to run against a candidate who has a reputation for equity, transparency and accountability. I’m proud of my work on the San Diego City Council as the first elected official to oppose the SoccerCity scam, to question the 101 Ash Street purchase (which was done before I joined the council), and to call for an independent audit of the Public Utilities Department when hundreds of customers were being overbilled and weren’t being taken seriously. I’m proud of my long-term involvement in the San Diego community—as Vice Chair of the Board of the San Diego Jewish Community Foundation, Chair of the Jewish Women’s Foundation Advisory Board, President of The Children’s Museum of San Diego and as a board member of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.

I’m running for San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk, because I believe there is an opportunity to modernize this critical office that so often flies under the radar and to ensure that important tax dollars are properly collected that help fund educational, health and public service programs that are so vital to our community.

If you can, please consider donating to help me build the infrastructure to fight back before my important December 31st filing deadline.

I pledge to continue running an ethical, honest campaign.
