GOAL: 30,000 comments. 17 million acres of the Tongass National Forest is at risk of permanent destruction if we don't act quickly. We must raise our voices — and raise hell — to save this forest. Tell the Forest Service NOT to gut protections that keep logging and development out of the Tongass National Forest »

Friend — If Trump has his way, huge swathes of our largest intact temperate rainforest could soon be nothing more than a desolate field.

Trump just released a horrifying plan to roll back what's called Roadless Rule protections, effectively opening Alaska's Tongass National Forest to unprecedented logging and development projects. Logging companies could soon raze this 17 million-acre forest to the ground — releasing vast amounts of carbon as old-growth trees are destroyed.

What's more: This plan is yet another attack from the Trump administration on Indigenous rights. Alaskan Native communities — including the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples — have depended on the Tongass Rainforest for millennia. It is the backbone to their culture, traditions, and communities — we simply cannot let it disappear.

Trump and his cronies in the Forest Service are trying to sweep this sellout under the rug and move forward without major public backlash. We can't let them. We must stand in solidarity with the Alaskan Native communities leading the fight to protect the Tongass and overwhelm the U.S. Forest Service with public comments in opposition to the sellout. The comment period is only open until December 17, so we can't wait a second to act. Will you join the fight for the Tongass now?

Trump is launching an all-out assault on one of our most important national forests. Submit a public comment and fight back now. DEADLINE: 12/17 »

The Tongass is one of the world's few remaining relatively intact temperate rainforests and we've known for years how important it is to protect. That's why the Roadless Rule went into effect to protect millions of acres of breathtaking, undeveloped, roadless land in the Tongass. Yet Trump wants to gut this rule and attack threatened habitats for wildlife like grizzly bears, moose, and salmon.

And as the climate crisis devastates communities across the country, preserving old-growth forests like the Tongass helps us to keep carbon out of the atmosphere. The Tongass is one of the planet's best carbon sinks — under Trump's rollback, the old-growth trees within the forest that store the most carbon would be especially vulnerable to being destroyed.

You and I both know what this plan really is, friend. It's nothing more than a blatant sellout of our largest temperate rainforest to corporate loggers who want to turn it into a pile of wood to sell. Trump is once again giving a handout to Big Polluters for a quick buck at the expense of our health, climate, and the needs of Alaskan Native communities who steward the land.

From gutting key provisions in the Endangered Species Act to moving to allow Big Polluters to mine uranium in the Grand Canyon, the Trump administration is in the middle of an all-out assault on our communities and environment. We can hold off the worst of these attacks — but only when LCV supporters like you show the world just how opposed the people are to these devastating attacks on our health and environment.

The Forest Service is only accepting public input on this plan until December 17, so we need 30,000 of us to flood the comment docket with messages and demand to stop polluters from destroying the Tongass forever. Can you please submit an emergency comment right now?

Our forests are under an all-out assault. Join the fight to protect them now. 30,000 comments needed »
