If there’s anything we’ve learned through this pandemic, it’s that Americans deserve affordable and accessible healthcare and prescription drugs. For too long, America’s families have faced unfairly high out-of-pocket costs.
That’s why I took action to introduce legislation that will bring much-needed relief to America’s families by:
→ Establishing a $35 per month out-of-pocket maximum for insulin, for everyone
→ Capping out-of-pocket costs for all seniors at $2,000 per year
→ Allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for the first time ever
→ Incentivizing competition and promoting lower-cost options, such as generics, by closing the loophole that allows drug makers to extend patents and make drugs more expensive
In all, this legislation will make transformational reforms to our drug pricing system, and ease costs for America’s families. It does all of this while preserving investment in the American scientific innovation that is developing new cures and treatments for our toughest diseases.
And it already passed the House as part of the Build Back Better Act.

I’m grateful to have worked with the White House and my Congressional colleagues on this historic legislation, and I look forward to seeing it pass the Senate and head to President Biden’s desk. We are one step closer to making quality prescription drugs more affordable and accessible in America.
